Congratulations to our Insurance Woman of the Year 2009

The APIW Insurance Woman of the Year award, presented annually since 1976, recognizes an exceptional woman who has achieved prominence in the insurance industry. Ms. Tomlinson was chosen as this year's award recipient in recognition of her outstanding achievements and leadership within the industry, as well as her commitment to the advancement of women.

Janice Tomlinson, Executive Vice President and International Field Operations Manager for the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies has been selected as this year’s recipient of the APIW Insurance Woman of the Year Award.

 

A cocktail reception and award ceremony will be held in Ms. Tomlinson’s honor on Wednesday, June 17, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the New York Marriott Marquis. John J. Degnan, Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer of The Chubb Corporation, will introduce Ms. Tom linson at the event. 

 

In commenting on Ms. Tomlinson being selected for this prestigious award, John D. Finnegan, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Chubb Corporation said, "We are extremely pleased that APIW is honoring Jan’s many accomplishments.Throughout her 35+ year career with Chubb, Jan has not only contributed to our bottom line and global presence, but by example helped ensure that Chubb was viewed as a company, where both men an d women could lead and succeed. Jan’s career path has underscored for women at Chubb the importance of gaining cross-functional expertise, taking advantage of opportunities and seeking roles that include responsibility.”

Ms. Tomlinson has been employed by Chubb since 1973. At Chubb, Ms. Tom linson is responsible for profit and loss of $2.9 billion dollar business located in 28 countries, with more than 50 offices and 2500 employees. Prior to her current position, Ms. Tom linson was the chairman and president of Chubb’s Canadian business operations from 1995 to 2003. She is currently a board member for Chubb Insurance Company of Canada, Chubb Insurance Company of Europe , and Chubb Atlantic Indemnity Ltd. 

 

Ms. Tomlinson has demonstrated her support for women’s issues and the insurance industry, by participating as an active member in the New Jersey International Women’s Forum, the Association of Professional Insurance Women and the American Association of University Women. She has been honored as one of the “New Jersey’s Best 50 Women in Business” for NJ Biz, “Women Worth Watching” for Profiles in Diversity an d w as named to the Business Insurance Women Worth Watching list in 2000. 

 The annual APIW Insurance Woman of the Year Award, first presented in 1976, recognizes an exceptional woman who has achieved prominence in her profession and has made significant contributions to the insurance industry. In announcing this year’s award, Cynthia Beveridge , President of APIW, said: “APIW is proud to bestow this honor on Jan Tomlinson. She has been instrumental in the formation of Chubb’s first women’s resource group, the Women’s Development Council, and has advocate d work/life balance for developing women in leadership roles. She was responsible for the development of the Life-Flex Program, that offered flexible work arrangements, a 24/7 nurse line and emergency leave programs for Canadian employees.  Additionally, Ms. Tomlinson has been instrumental in significantly increasing female representation at Chubb at the manager and officer levels worldwide.   Her leadership and accomplishments, as well as her commitment to supporting and advancing women, are exceptional examples of all of the qualities that APIW looks for in the recipient of this highly prestigious honor.
